{"id":90,"date":"2017-09-27T14:20:34","date_gmt":"2017-09-27T18:20:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nearnorthschools.ca\/parry-sound\/?page_id=90"},"modified":"2020-11-23T13:56:37","modified_gmt":"2020-11-23T18:56:37","slug":"code-of-conduct","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.nearnorthschools.ca\/parry-sound\/about-us\/code-of-conduct\/","title":{"rendered":"Code of Conduct"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">PARRY SOUND HIGH SCHOOL<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><a style=\"color: #000000\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nearnorthschools.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Code-of-Conduct.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ογ½ΆΦ±²₯ CODE OF CONDUCT<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">The Near North District School Board continues to take steps and enact procedures that enhance the safety of students and staff members in its schools and that promote clear standards of behaviour.\u00a0 The School Board\u2019s Code of Conduct and individual School Codes of Conduct reflect the requirements outlined in Policy\/Program Memorandum No. 128 (October 4, 2007).\u00a0 The Ontario standards of behaviour apply to all individuals (students, parents\/guardians, staff members, volunteers, partners, etc.) involved in the schools and activities of the Near North District School Board, \u2013\u2013 whether they are on school property, on school buses, travelling to and from school, at school-authorized events or activities, or involved in acts off school property which affect the tone of the school.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">In consultation with the staff, school council, First Nations\u2019 Counsellors and students\u2019 council, Parry Sound High School has established a School Code of Conduct that operates under the umbrella of the provincial and Board codes. This document will be posted on the school website and made available to all stakeholders.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Parry Sound High School is committed to the following:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">ensuring that all members of the school community, especially people in positions of authority, are treated with respect and dignity<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">promoting respect for the rights of others<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">promoting responsible citizenship<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">maintaining an environment where conflict and difference can be addressed through the use of non-violent means<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">providing a safe teaching\/learning environment<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">discouraging the use of alcohol and illegal drugs<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>School Staff<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">support the leadership of the principal in maintaining order and consistent disciplinary practices in the school<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">help students work to their full potential and develop their sense of self-worth<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">communicate (teaching staff) regularly and meaningfully with parents<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">hold everyone to the highest standard of respectful and responsible behaviour and model such behaviour<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">demonstrate care and commitment to academic excellence and a safe teaching\/learning environment<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Students<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">come to school prepared, on time, and ready to learn<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">show respect for himself or herself, for others, and for those in authority;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">refrain from bringing anything to school or be in possession of anything that may compromise the safety of others<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Become familiar with and follow the Code of Conduct and school rules<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong>Parents\/Guardians<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">show an active interest in their child&#8217;s school work and progress , for example: maintaining contact with the school\/their child\u2019s teachers, attending parent teacher conferences and being cognizant of reporting periods etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">help their child be neat, appropriately dressed, and prepared for school<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">ensure that their child attends school regularly and on time<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">promptly report to the school their child&#8217;s absence or late arrival<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">be familiar with the provincial Code of Conduct, the Board&#8217;s Code of Conduct, and school rules<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">encourage and assist their child in following the rules of behaviour<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">assist school staff in dealing with disciplinary issues involving their
