Orange Shirt Day /sunset-park/2019/09/23/orange-shirt-day/ /sunset-park/2019/09/23/orange-shirt-day/#respond Mon, 23 Sep 2019 16:49:32 +0000 /sunset-park/2019/09/23/orange-shirt-day/ We will be observing Orange Shirt Day on Friday September 27th this year as September 30th is a PD Day

Orange Shirt Day is an opportunity for schools and communities to come together in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come. As part of the new mandatory curriculum that includes the teaching and learning of Residential Ï㽶ֱ²¥, we are encouraging schools to support and participate in this National campaign.

Orange Shirt Day is a legacy of the St. Joseph Mission (SJM) residential school commemoration event held in Williams Lake, BC. It grew out of Phyllis’ story of having her new orange shirt taken away on her first day of school at the Mission, and it has become an opportunity to keep the discussion on all aspects of residential schools happening annually.

Stress Behaviour vs. Misbehaviour – Lisa Corbett /sunset-park/2018/10/18/stress-behaviour-vs-misbehaviour-lisa-corbett/ /sunset-park/2018/10/18/stress-behaviour-vs-misbehaviour-lisa-corbett/#respond Fri, 19 Oct 2018 02:18:50 +0000 /sunset-park/?p=439 We learned a lot in our day with Lisa Cranston from the Mehrit Centre.  I’m still thinking about helping students manage stress behaviour, compared to recognizing when a child is simply making bad choices.  I wrote about it here…

Session With Lisa Cranston /sunset-park/2018/10/16/session-with-lisa-cranston/ /sunset-park/2018/10/16/session-with-lisa-cranston/#respond Tue, 16 Oct 2018 23:04:29 +0000 /sunset-park/?p=431 What a great session we had today with Lisa Cranston! Lisa is a Self-Reg Foundations Program Facilitator at the MEHRIT Centre and you can read more about her here: https://self-reg.ca/about-us/
I am doing a lot of reflecting this evening on how the five core domains of experience impact not only our students each and every day but how they also impact our own actions and reactions as adults each day. My thoughts are also revolving around the notion that our job is never to remove all stress completely but to support our students in getting to a space where the stress load is healthy. Thanks for coming to North Bay Lisa! – Erinn
